How
to Navigate the Circle
Construction crews recently completed the
traffic circle in the Old Town District.
According to Glenn Goolsby “traffic navigating
the circle presented an interesting mix of near
misses and confusion.”
Drivers traveling the circle they should do the
following:
1. Slow down as you approach the intersection
entering into the circle;
2. You will enter the circle in a
counter-clockwise method;
3. Traffic in the circle should yield to cars
entering the circle;
4. Travel to the outside of the circle when
preparing to leave the circle;
5. Remember that buses and large vehicles
traveling in the circle may have to complete
wide turns leaving the circle;
6. Watch for pedestrians and bicycles traveling
in or near the circle;
7. Obey all traffic signs and laws when driving
in the circle;
8. Use turn signals to notify other drivers of
your intent when entering, going around, or
leaving the circle.
It is important to remember, if you miss your
street intersection from the circle continue
driving around the circle again. Do not stop in
the middle of the circle as this may cause
collisions with other cars. If there are more
than one lane in the traffic circle, traffic not
turning immediately should enter
the inner most lane and continue in that lane
until they begin approaching their intersection.
When making an exit move to the outside lane to
complete the turn. |
